1. The Foreign Ministry, together with Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), will hold the final round of the fifth “Quiz on Korea,” a global quiz show on the Republic of Korea, at KBS, Seoul, on August 27.

2. The “Quiz on Korea” show is one of the public diplomacy programs conducted by the Foreign Ministry to enhance foreigners' interest in the ROK and the country’s international image. Its preliminary rounds are held in foreign countries, and the winner from each country is invited to the ROK to compete in the final round.

3. For the fifth “Quiz on Korea,” some 2,300 foreigners participated in heated preliminary contests.

4. In conjunction with the preliminary contests, Hansik (Korean food) promotional events, K-pop performances and traditional Korean game events were held to promote to foreigners many different aspects of Korean culture.

5. The 21 winners of the preliminary round held in 21 regions of the world are on a visit to the ROK from August 22 through 28. During the visit, they are enjoying first-hand experiences of Korean culture in Seoul and Gwangju Metropolitan City and will compete in the final round of the “Quiz on Korea” show at KBS, Seoul, on August 27.

° The final round of the fifth “Quiz on Korea” will be broadcast on KBS 1TV on September 14 during the Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) holidays. It will also be aired in some 100 countries around the world by KBS World.

6. The Foreign Ministry expects that the “Quiz on Korea” event will serve as an opportunity for foreigners with shared interest in the ROK to build friendship with, share their own cultures with and thereby learn more about one another, as well as to promote the ROK back home as civilian diplomats.
