1. Chancellor Yun Duk-min of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) met with Speaker Akja Nurberdiyeva of Majlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan at the KNDA on August 29 and exchanged in-depth views with her on the Republic of Korea-Turkmenistan relations; the two countries’ respective foreign policies; the situation on the Korean Peninsula; and ways for the diplomatic academies of the two countries to work together.

2. Chancellor Yun, taking note of the steady advances in the ROK-Turkmenistan relations across the board, including political affairs, economy and culture, since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992, voiced hope to see a closer, mutually beneficial partnership between the two countries.

° The Chancellor extended appreciation to the Turkmenian government for promptly announcing its position in response to North Korea’s fourth nuclear test in early 2016 and expressing support for a denuclearized Korean Peninsula. He asked the Turkmenian government to continue rendering close cooperation with regard to the North Korean nuclear issue.

3. The meeting with Speaker Nurberdiyeva is seen to have served as an opportunity to help Turkmenistan learn more about the ROK’s foreign policy and the situation on the Korean Peninsula and to reinforce the foundation for diplomatic cooperation between the two countries.
