1. On the sidelines of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly, Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se met bilaterally with his Bolivian counterpart David Choquehuanca Cespedes in New York on September 20. In their meeting, the two top diplomats exchanged in-depth views on the Republic of Korea-Bolivia relations and international efforts to work together on the North Korean nuclear issue.

2. Minister Yun extended appreciation to the Bolivian government for issuing statements of condemnation over North Korea’s fourth and fifth nuclear tests, and asked the Bolivian government to continue rendering cooperation and support on efforts to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue.

° Minister Choquehuanca stated that as a peace-pursuing country, Bolivia is clearly opposed to North Korea’s nuclear tests, as they threaten peace and stability of humanity.

3. Minister Yun, offering congratulations to Bolivia on its election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2017-2018 term, voiced hope to work closely with the country on North Korean and other key issues.

° The two diplomats agreed to work more closely together at the UN and on other international stages. They also agreed to increase cooperation at regional mechanisms, including through the eighth foreign ministerial meeting of the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC), which will be hosted by the ROK in Seoul in 2017.

4. The two Ministers noted with appreciation that since Minister Choquehuanca’s visit to the ROK in January 2015, the two countries have been seeing more robust high-level exchanges and the scope of bilateral cooperation broaden. They voiced hope to see the ROK-Bolivia relations taken a notch higher, including through their joint committee and the visit of Bolivia’s investment delegation.
