1. Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se will visit Brussels, Belgium, on October 5 and 6 to deliver an address at the North Atlantic Council (NAC) of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on October 6 and attend a minister-level Brussels Conference on Afghanistan, which will be co-hosted by the EU and the Afghan government on October 5.

2. At NAC’s extraordinary session on the situation on the Korean Peninsula organized by NATO to coincide with the Foreign Minister’s visit, the Minister will bring attention to the grave situation on the Korean Peninsula triggered by North Korea’s launches of long- and intermediate- range missiles. The two sides will discuss ways for the Republic of Korea and NATO to work together to make North Korea fundamentally change its strategic calculus.

3. On the sidelines of the NAC session, Minister Yun will meet with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg to make an assessment of the situation on the Korean Peninsula and discuss ways to step up the ROK-NATO coordination on North Korea.

4. On October 5, Minister Yun will attend a minister-level Brussels Conference on Afghanistan in Belgium. At the meeting, the Minister will commend the Afghan government for its efforts to achieve economic development as well as its accomplishments despite harsh, post-war difficulties; underscore the importance of continuous assistance from the international community to Afghanistan; and express the ROK government’s commitment to remain cooperative for socio-economic development of Afghanistan.
