ROK and China Hold a Working-level Meeting on Consular Affairs

1. Director of the Consular Services Division Kwon Dong-seok of the Foreign Ministry held a working-level meeting on consular affairs with director of the Asian and African consular affairs Wang Wei of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in Beijing, China, on November 1.

° The working-level meeting came to seek ways to implement the measures agreed upon at the Republic of Korea-China meeting of directors-general for consular affairs held in June.

2. The working-level meeting covered the progress in the implementation of the measures agreed upon at the ROK-China consular meeting in June, including the visa exemption for young students of the two countries visiting the other country on school trips and issuing an increased number of multi-entry visas for tourism and commercial purposes.

3. In order to install a hotline between their diplomatic missions in each other’s countries and the police and rescue authorities of the host countries as a way to better protect their nationals in large-scale incidents and accidents, the two sides exchanged their lists of the names of officials in charge and agreed to cooperate promptly and actively in protecting each other’s nationals.

4. The two sides agreed to hold the director-level consular meeting in the ROK in early 2017 to review the progress in the implementation of the measures agreed upon at the ROK-China meeting of directors-general for consular affairs and to seek ways to move them further forward.
