ROK Opens an Honorary Consulate in Davao, the Philippines

1. An honorary consulate of the Republic of Korea was opened in Davao in the southern Philippines on November 24. At its opening ceremony held on the same day, the ROK’s Ambassador to the Philippines Kim Jae-shin presented honorary consul Edgar Ang with a letter of appointment signed by Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se.

2. Honorary consul Ang will play a bridging role for advances in the ROK-Philippines relations in economy and other sectors, including by supporting bids of Korean companies to build presence in the southern Philippines. In addition, the honorary consulate in Davao is expected to help further enhance the friendly and cooperative ties between the two countries in various areas.

3. Later in the day, Ambassador Kim, together with honorary consul Ang, paid a courtesy call on Davao Mayor Sarah Duterte, a daughter of President Duterte, during which the two sides discussed ways to increase exchanges and cooperation between the ROK and Davao.
