1. The 13th ROK-Japan Security Policy Consultation was held in Tokyo on Friday, November 29, 2024, attended by diplomatic and security officials from the two countries.
※ The ROK-Japan Security Policy Consultation was stipulated in the Action Plan for the “Joint Declaration: A New ROK-Japan Partnership towards the Twenty-first Century ” to be held at least once a year. After its 11th round in 2018, the Consultation was suspended for about five years, but the two countries agreed to resume it at the bilateral summit in March 2023.
2. At this meeting, the two sides shared their assessments of the current security environment in Northeast Asia and exchanged views on the current status of ROK-Japan and ROK-U.S.-Japan cooperation on foreign and defense policies as well as the direction of security cooperation.
3. The two sides acknowledged that security cooperation between them is essential in dealing with the serious regional and global situation created by the deployment of North Korean troops to Russia, among others. They agreed to develop their security cooperation based on mutual understanding of each other's defense and security policies.
