1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea and the Federal Foreign Office of Germany successfully launched the first-ever Korea-Germany Indo-Pacific Dialogue (hereafter referred to as the "Indo-Pacific Dialogue") on March 10, 2025.

2. Eui-hae Cecilia Chung, Special Representative for the Indo-Pacific Region, and Frank Hartmann, Director General for Asia and the Pacific at the German Federal Foreign Office, convened the dialogue at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Seoul. Both sides shared the recognition that the stability of the Indo-Pacific region is critical not only for regional peace and prosperity but also for the international community as a whole. They exchanged views on the current situation and challenges in the Indo-Pacific region and its interconnectedness with European security. Furthermore, they discussed their key policies, including those related to climate, environment, and cybersecurity, and agreed to continue exploring concrete cooperation measures to jointly contribute to the peace and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific region.

3. Special Representative Eui-hae Cecilia Chung appreciated Germany's accession to the United Nations Command (UNC) in August 2024, amid deepening security linkages between the Indo-Pacific and Europe. Director General Hartmann mentioned that through this Dialogue, Korea and Germany, which share values and interests amid rapidly changing geopolitical dynamics, were able to reaffirm their commitment to joint responses and cooperation in addressing various challenges.

4. The Korea-Germany Indo-Pacific Dialogue is the latest addition to Korea's newly launched series of Indo-Pacific dialogues, following the Korea-U.S.-Japan (launched in January 2024), Korea-Japan-Australia (launched in June 2024), and Korea-France (launched in October 2024) Indo-Pacific Dialogues. It marks the ROK's second bilateral Indo-Pacific dialogue with a European country and signifies a step forward in institutionalizing Korea's ongoing efforts to enhance Indo-Pacific cooperation.

※ Both regional countries like Korea and major extraregional countries, including the EU and six European countries (Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Czechia, and Lithuania), have officially announced their own Indo-Pacific strategies/policies. Notably, Germany's Indo-Pacific Guidelines, published in 2020, share many commonalities with Korea's Indo-Pacific Strategy, emphasizing the rules-based order and principles of inclusiveness. Based on the three principles of cooperation - mutual benefit, inclusiveness, and trust - Korea is building a sustainable and substantive cooperation framework by institutionalizing Indo-Pacific dialogues with key regional and extraregional countries.
