1. Lee Jooil, Director-General for Latin American and Caribbean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who visited Madrid, Spain, held the 5th meeting of the Korean and Spanish Directors-General for Latin American and Caribbean affairs with Francisco Javier Gasso Matoses, Director-General for Ibero-America and the Caribbean at the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Wednesday, March 19.
2. The two directors-general exchanged views on the rapidly changing global environment and the consequent changes in the Latin American situation. They also discussed foreign policies toward Latin America, the current status of engagement in the region, and cooperation with Latin American regional organizations.
3. Additionally, the two directors-general agreed to continue cooperation in responding efficiently to the Latin American situation by utilizing collaborative frameworks, such as the meeting of the Korean and Spanish Directors-General for Latin American and Caribbean affairs and the Ibero-American Community, and in exploring ways for both countries to jointly expand their presence in the region.
4. This meeting served as an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of Korea-Spain cooperation in Latin America on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, while also contributing to strengthening communication between the diplomatic authorities on policies related to Latin America.
