1. The government of the Republic of Korea strongly protests the Japanese government’s reopening today of the so-called “National Museum of Territory and Sovereignty” in Tokyo Metropolis, aimed at strengthening unjust claims over Dokdo, and urges its immediate closure once again.

2. It is deeply regrettable that despite the ROK government’s repeated calls for the immediate closure of the museum since its opening in 2018, the Japanese government reopened it. The Japanese government should be clearly aware that repeatedly making unjust claims over Dokdo, which is clearly an integral part of the ROK territory historically, geographically and under international law, is in no way conducive to the efforts to establish a future-oriented relationship between the ROK and Japan.
