Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin will attend an international forum on 「North Korean Human Rights and Pathways to Progress」, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, September 15.

The forum will be held in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the UN Commission of Inquiry (COI) on North Korean human rights, a significant milestone in the international efforts to improve North Korean human rights situation. The forum, which will bring together around 100 people from governments, international organizations, civil society, and academia, will serve as an opportunity to assess the current human rights situation in North Korea and explore more effective approaches.

In his welcoming remarks, Foreign Minister Park will emphasize the importance of the North Korean human rights issue on par with the nuclear issue, and also highlight the Korean government’s will and efforts towards improving North Korean human rights situation.

Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Oh Youngju will also attend the forum and deliver closing remarks.
