Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul will meet with Ambassador of the United States to the Republic of Korea Philip Goldberg this afternoon.

Ambassador Goldberg is the first Ambassador to Korea that Foreign Minister Cho receives since his inauguration, and the meeting today reflects the importance of the ROK-U.S. alliance.

Foreign Minister Cho will appreciate the contribution of Ambassador Goldberg, who has worked to strengthen the ROK-U.S. alliance, with last year marking its 70th anniversary. The two sides are expected to exchange views on ways to advance the ROK-U.S. alliance and ROK-U.S.-Japan cooperation, and North Korean issues, including its nuclear issue, as well as key regional and global affairs.

Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Insun will chair the 8th ROK-U.S. Senior Economic Dialogue at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs tomorrow afternoon.

Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Jose W. Fernandez, who leads the U.S. delegation, will visit Korea for the Dialogue.

The two sides will focus their discussion on various ways of cooperation on economic security centered around supply chains, and also discuss ways to enhance global cooperation in other areas including development and infrastructure.
