Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong will be visiting Viet Nam, Singapore and Indonesia from June 21 to 25.

Foreign Minister Chung’s trip will be his first face-to-face diplomatic event with ASEAN countries since his inauguration.

During his visit, Foreign Minister Chung will discuss with the foreign minister and other high-level officials of each of the three countries ways to reinforce cooperation on health and disease control, economic recovery and regional issues. He will also attend the High-Level Policy Dialogue to be held in Hanoi, Viet Nam, on June 22 in commemoration of the 25^th anniversary of ASEM.

The Korean government expects that Foreign Minister Chung’s visit would help enhance the sustainability and the expandability of the scope of the New Southern Policy.

Amb. Noh Kyu-duk, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, will have a bilateral consultation on June 21 with Amb. Sung Kim, Special Representative for the DPRK of the United States, and discuss ways for the two countries to work together to make substantial progress in achieving complete denuclearization and establishing permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Also, Amb. Noh will have a ROK-U.S.-Japan trilateral consultation and a ROK-Japan bilateral consultation on June 21 with Mr. Funakoshi Takehiro, Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, who will be visiting Seoul as well.
