Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin will be visiting Jeju Island from September 14 to 15 to attend the 17th Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity.
On Thursday, September 15, Foreign Minister Park will host an official dinner for the key participants of the Forum.
He will deliver remarks in which he will highlight the importance of coexistence and cooperation in responding to complex challenges facing the international community, including the pandemic, climate change and the war in Ukraine.
Earlier on that day, Foreign Minister Park will have a luncheon with Governor and Mrs. Larry Hogan of Maryland, the U.S., who will be visiting Jeju Island for the Jeju Forum.
During the luncheon, the two sides will discuss cooperation between Korea and Maryland and Korea’s response to the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act.
In addition, Foreign Minister Park will have meetings with those from the Parliament, government and academia of Canada and from ruling and opposition parties of Japan, who have come to participate in the Forum, to exchange views on matters of mutual interest.
During his Jeju visit, Foreign Minister Park will also deliver congratulatory remarks at the opening ceremony of the Jeju ASEAN Hall of the ASEAN-Korea Centre, plant a tree as a symbol of the ASEAN-Korea friendship, sign a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province on cooperation on participatory diplomacy, and visit the Korea Foundation and the Overseas Koreans Foundation, among various other things.
