Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Affairs Soosuk Lim
November 9, 2023 14:00 KST
Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin will visit Paris, France, from November 10 to 11 to attend the 6th Paris Peace Forum and, on that occasion, engage in activities to garner support for Korea’s bid to host the World Expo in Busan.
This year’s Forum, to be held under the theme “Seeking Common Ground in a World of Rivalry,” will bring together the leaders and ministerial-level officials of European and African countries.
Foreign Minister Park’s participation in the Forum will serve as an opportunity to discuss the importance of international cooperation to address global challenges, including climate change, disputes, and poverty, and to enhance Korea’s contribution as a Global Pivotal State.
In addition, Foreign Minister Park will attend the General Conference of UNESCO and deliver Korea’s national statement. He will explain that Korea’s contribution has continuously expanded in various fields related to UNESCO, and request support for Korea’s candidacy in the election for members of the World Heritage Committee and Korea’s bid to host the World Expo in Busan.
Foreign Minister Park will also meet with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay and discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between Korea and UNESCO.
(A question-and-answer session followed.)
